Ministry of Transport and Communications promotes modernization of the airports infrastructure in the country

Emerson Castro, airport coordinator of the General Direction of Transport Concessions of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, informed that the sector is implementing a plan to promote the modernization and reinforcement of the entire airport infrastructure in the country, in order to raise intermodal connectivity.

In this regard, he pointed out that by 2021, the sector aims to have eight more airports awarded, to rehabilitate non-concessioned airports, to have logistic platforms for air cargo planned in the airports of Pisco, Trujillo, Piura, Chiclayo and Lima, as well as raise the capacity of flights at the Jorge Chávez International Airport. In this context, it was reported that the first and second group of concessioned airports are updating their master development plans. Likewise, it is expected that in the first quarter of 2019 the rehabilitation works of the landing strip at Chiclayo and Piura airports will begin, with a total investment of US$ 100 million.

Finally, regarding the project "Chinchero International Airport" and the "Third Group of Airports" that is expected to be awarded next year, it was reported that they will include logistics platforms and cargo terminals in their design, to meet the growth of air traffic in the coming years.


  • Minsur started construction of preliminary works for the development of the "Mina Justa" mining project  (Gestión).

  • The Ministry of Transports and Communications reported that Lima Airport Partners will sign an agreement with the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) for the loan of more than 44 thousand square meters for the parking of aircraft. Likewise, it was reported that in December environmental remediation of the area where the expansion project of the Jorge Chávez airport will be developed (Semana Económica).

  • GeoPark Ltd. reported that it will invest US$ 130 million in the development of oil fields in the Morona field, part of Block 64, in Loreto (Gestión).


  • The Minister of Energy and Mines, Francisco Ísmodes, announced the creation of a technical group responsible for evaluating the energy problem in Loreto. Among the potential solutions are the transmission line project from Moyobamba to Iquitos and the solar energy project proposed by Indian companies (Gestión).


  • Okra Energy informed that it is preparing for the development of four LNG plants in the center and south of the country  (Gestión).


  • The Congress Budget Committee will discuss structure to ensure the state guarantee in favor of the Chavimochic and Majes II projects for the year 2019  (Gestión).

  • Repsol invested US$ 741 million in the construction of a new production unit at the La Pampilla Refinery (Semana Económica).
  • President Martín Vizcarra announced the government's commitment to the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Sullana (Gestión).
